I realize there are still 3 months left of 2009, but I felt like compiling a list of top moments this year and things I've learned.
What I have learned... - how to read alto clef - I like hot weather. - I love Interlochen in many ways, but it is nice to be in college with less restrictions. - Mr. Wescott's English courses prepared me for college English. - Macs aren't perfect (but are much closer to perfection than PCs) - You can be entirely wrong about a person. - Sometimes, life just happens. - Running away isn't always the solution. And sometimes causes problems of its own. - The Symphonie Fantastique excerpt (IV) is ridiculous. But I love it.
Top moments...(so far) Trip to Rochester in February. Breakfast at the Omelette Shop & showing up on Riccy's doorstep at 9AM with Zach. Senior Recital Graduation Faculty Brass Ensemble Performing Mahler 3 with IP Hanging out at the Fenton Winery with Kristen, Les, Mom & Corner Dating Zach :) Lincolnshire Posy at SMU Dallas Symphony HIS Fall break. hasn't happened yet. but it will be. Thanksgiving (okay, so it hasn't happened yet either, but it will be one, too)

The ties that binds us are sometimes impossible to explain. They connect us even after it seems like the ties should be broken. Some bonds defy distance and time and logic; Because some ties are simply...meant to be.

Academically speaking, I am accepted into University of North Texas, University of Michigan, and Michigan State.
Musically speaking, I have only completed two auditons. I was offered a spot in the Oberlin Conservatory trombone studio!
I am going to Rochester NY in February and fortunately enough there is a Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra concert that evening with amazing Bernstein repertoire. Sweet :)
I need to practice for my theory skills exam now.

My trombone instructor called me yesterday and asked if I could play euphonium for him at a camp at Interlochen next week. I gave away 27 hours of work at McDonalds in order to clear my schedule, and I'm not even sure I'm going. It will really suck if I'm home for a whole week with no hours.
Scheduled my indoor senior pictures. Wow. I'm a senior, when did that happen?
Oberlin visit in a few weeks, hopefully!
I hope I can work some decent hours before I go back to school.

I know who I'm rooming with next fall! My friend Laura, who is a day student from Montana and rented a house near campus with her mom, is living on campus next year. Rumor has it, Interlochen is reopening McWhorter (one of the dorms that is currently not being used) so Laura and I are going to try to live there. I'm excited. I can't wait to (hopefully) leave Thor Johnson.
I'm so glad tomorrow is Thursday.
For the final band concert, we're recycling a couple pieces that the band voted for, as well as playing a few new ones. Repertoire:
Ticheli: Vesuvius Holst: The Planets - IV. Jupiter Bernstein: Candide - Overture Nelson: Passacalgia (Homage on B-A-C-H) Maslanka: Give Us This Day Orff: Carmina Burana - (13 movements from it, anyway) Along with two other pieces that I don't remember because I don't like them, and my band music is in another dorm right now so I can't go look.
I'm going off campus this weekend... yay, go me =]

Wow. It's been awhile since an actual entry, but I felt like writing, so I'll probably come up with something to say.
Last night was the band concert. Personally, it was the worst concert I have ever played. I got lost in the Concerto for Two Clarinets, which was the second piece we played, so I sort of lost focus after that and had a rough time the rest of the performance. It's scary to think that the pros get fired for missing notes... I was lost for almost an entire page...
Today I took the ACT, which went pretty well. I had difficulty with the Math and Science portions especially, but I believe English and Reading went rather smoothly. I hope I do well.
List of schools I would like to audition for: Oberlin Cleveland Institute of Music MSU U of M (Ann Arbor) California Institue of the Arts Eastman
On a lighter notes, prom is coming up soon and I am very excited. The theme is Lights Out! which, in my opinion, is really lame and just an excuse for couples to make out in the dark. My idea of the Roaring 20s would have been SO much better. Even Old Hollywood would have been pretty cool. Lights out is just lame. Oh well. I'm over it.
The end.

Rachmaninov: Symphony #2 |

The end of the first week of a new semester.
Tuesday was absolutely crazy, I only had one free hour, followed by tutorials all night =P
I dropped my second history class, here's what my schedule looks like:
1st: Band 2nd: Band 3rd: free 4th: Short Story 5th: Contemporary America 6th: free/lunch 7th: Algebra II 8th: Spanish 9th: free
It's really nice, I used to have my four academics right in a row, and now I have a free hour in between (except for on lesson days...eek)
And Mr. Wescott did not kill my GPA! Known grades so far (for first semester): Spanish: A Renaissance: B+ diplomacy: B
Band concert tonight! It should be great. Yay.

I moved up a chair in band! I finally beat someone, yay! I've been working really hard.
I'm also sick, and I had juries today =P but I played the Morceau really well, so I was pleased. I think that's the last time I'm playing that piece for a very long time. Next up: first movement of Grondahl!
Mark Hsieh is coming up sometime this week!
Molly is moving in with me, I'm glad. We've been trying to get her to move in, but we've had a couple of rough patches in the process of doing so. But it's official, I have a roommate!
FYSO alumni night on Tuesday, yeahh!!! *snap snap* I'm excited. I ♥ you, Lauren!
Things are going really well. I just wish I felt a little better, just enough so that it's not uncomfortable to practice. Right now it's hard. Oh well. Yay nailing juries!

i'm singing the finale from Brahms 2. |
] |
Reauditions are on Friday. The required excerpts for tenor trombone consist of:
Brahms 2, if auditioning for orchestra Rossini La Gazza Ladra Saint-Saëns Organ Symphony (#3)
I'm not auditioning for orchestra, so no Brahms 2 for me (thankfully, an excerpt in the first part has a run that starts on a high D, and that doesn't sound like too much fun) I think I stand a good chance of moving up though, my excerpts are sounding decent. I've been practicing a lot lately. Yay!
Time to sleep! Master class tomorrow with Kevin Sanders (Interlochen tuba alum, also attended IU!)
